Do you like to conduct a ritual prior to reading your Tarot cards, whether it is for yourself or for someone else?

Rituals are certainly not for everyone, for some of us, it is enough to simply pick up our Tarot deck and to start the reading. However, for many, a ritual is called for.

For me, cleansing the cards and protecting myself and the space where I will be conducting the reading is an important ritual that I enjoy performing prior to every reading. The ritual helps me to connect to myself, which I believe is paramount if we are to serve ourselves, clients, and friends, to the best of our ability. It is an honour to read the Tarot or indeed any divination tool for others and preparing for it is I feel, is essential.

If this is something that is also important to you, please read on.

There are multiple ways that you can conduct a ritual however, most if not all rituals contain the same base elements.

Intention – Set your intentions for whatever it is that you wish to achieve. Intentions are often multiple.

Place & Space – Allow yourself a sufficient space in your day to be able to be fully present for the ritual so that you do not feel any pressure to rush through it. Seek out a suitable place to hold the ritual, this may be the actual place where you will be doing the reading or somewhere that is special for you. It can be wherever it needs to be depending on circumstances, however,  preferably somewhere quiet and private, or better still, out in nature.

Love – Infuse your ritual with love. Ensure you are coming from your heart space.

What you add to these basic ingredients is totally up to you. There are no right or wrong ways to conduct your ritual, so long as it has all the very best intentions that you can muster, it will work! I believe that intention is the beginning and end of all rituals!

A typical ritual for me includes setting my intentions for the reading and then feeling into the energy of the person whom I am going to read for (because I have been asked to conduct the reading, I, therefore, have permission to do this) and asking my guides which would be the most suitable Tarot deck for them. Followed by cleansing the deck with homemade Sage or Rosemary smudge sticks and if the reading is to be in my home I will cleanse the area that I have set aside for the reading so that the space is sacred, and this includes cleansing and protecting myself.

This may sound like a lot to do but it doesn’t take long at all once you have performed it a few times.

Rituals form part of my craft and I often use them to bring me back home to myself, back into alignment. I conduct rituals for many different reasons and sometimes they are as simple as setting an intention for an amazing day, as I stir my morning cacao clockwise 3 times. Or something more elaborate, incorporating meditation, particular colour candles, crystals, essential oils, and herbs.

It is so easy to get caught up with the business of life, especially when we have so much going on (and most of us have too much happening all the time and so it becomes our ‘normal’ state of affairs). I feel that they assist on both the spiritual and emotional levels in preparation for whatever it is we are intending.
